APS Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science

The Arthur L. Schawlow Prize recognizes outstanding contributions to basic research which uses lasers to advance our knowledge of the fundamental physical properties of materials and their interaction with light. 2010 Recipients: Henry C. Kapteyn of JILA, University of Colorado, USA and Margaret M. Murnane of JILA, University of Colorado, USA. Citation: For critical advances in the science and technology of high-harmonics generation, with particular relevance to sub-femtosecond pulse generation and related attosecond-scale physics.

R.W. Wood Prize awarded to Henry C. Kapteyna dn Margaret M. Munane

Established by the Optical Society of America (OSA) in 1975 to honor the many contributions that R.W. Wood made to optics, this award recognizes an outstanding discovery, scientific or technical achievement, or invention in the field of optics. Professosr Murnane and Kapteyn were awarded the prestigious Wood Prize at the CLEO conference in May of 2010.  Henry and Margaret were recognized for their critical advances in the science and technology of high harmonic generation, with particular relevance to sub-femtosecond pulse generation and related attosecond-scale physics.

EUV Table-Top Microscope is Awarded a
2008 R&D 100 Award

Professor Carmen Menoni and other principal investigators from Colorado State University, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, UC Berkeley and Lebedev Physical Institute in Moscow, along with graduate students on the research effort, received the R&D 100 Award at a ceremony held in Chicago on October 16, 2008. Awarded was the EUVM-1, the first EUV Microscope based on a table-top EUV laser source which extends the range of resolution for light-based imaging. For the announcement, click here.
